Bill Truex, originally from White Bear Lake, Minnesota moved to
Bozeman in 1975, a year after his family had relocated to Livingston.
Truex ventured out on his own and opened Bozeman TV & Appliance
that same year at 34 N. Bozeman Ave. He was 27 years old.
(The building had previously housed an Electronics business, a
Furniture company, a DeSoto Car Dealership and was also a bus barn
at one time.) Truex started out the business with black and white
RCA TVs and Whirlpool brand appliances. In the early days of the
business, Bill unloaded the freight trucks, stocked the warehouse, ran
the sales floor and delivered the merchandise to customers himself.
In 1978 Truex was able to hire his first sales associate and as the
business slowly grew through the 80’s he continued to hire more
In 1987 Rikki Bushnell joined the company as a temp. By coincidence
Bushnell also came to Montana in 1975 from the midwest (Illinois).
Bushnell became a permanent addition to Bozeman TV’s staff and
became the President of the Company and Junior Partner in 2006.
Truex & Bushnell expanded the showroom several times throughout
the 90’s adding 4 lines of cabinets and over 25 brands of appliances
as the local economy continued to grow.
The new century brought even more growth to Bozeman and in 2008,
with a staff of 25, Bozeman TV & Appliance had outgrown their
downtown location and moved to 511 N. 7th Avenue. (The former
home of Bozeman Furniture). The move allowed Bozeman TV to
expand their appliance and cabinet displays even further and also
add furniture and mattresses to their product lineup.
The name was changed at the time of the move to Bozeman TV,
Furniture & Appliance.
Today, Bozeman TV, Furniture & Appliance is the only remaining
locally owned "major" appliance store in the valley and they continue
toto sell Appliances, Furniture, Cabinets, and Televisions promoting as
many made in America brands as possible all at the lowest possible
price. And they back this up with a 110% Price Guarantee too!
